Braun, Foglesong Win Awards as Scots Win Four Events on Saturday

Men Finish 4th, Women 6th at MWC Championships

MONMOUTH, Ill. (03/01/2026) — The Monmouth College men's and women's track and field teams won four more individual events on Saturday, the final day of the Midwest Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships. Kayla Braun (Evansville, Illinois) was named the Women's Field Performer of the Year and freshman Kaden Foglesong (Ipava, Illinois) was named Men's Newcomer of the Year. This marks the fifth year in a row that a Monmouth thrower has won the Women's Field Performer of the Year award at the Indoor Championships.

Braun won the weight throw to sweep the throwing events on the weekend while Tashawn Ruffin (Bloomington, Illinois) repeated as triple jump champion, Lane Grice (East Galesburg, Illinois) won the pole vault and Logan Morse (Yates City, Illinois) won the high jump to give the men three wins on the day.

The men finished in fourth place with 112.5 points while the women were sixth with 69.5 points as Grinnell won both titles.

MEN

Grice led a 1-2-3 Monmouth finish in the pole vault as he won the event with a PR of 3.90m. Matthew Bright (Macomb, Illinois), who won the event last year at home, finished second at 3.75m and Foglesong was third at 3.60m. The win is Monmouth's 16th all-time for indoor pole vault.

Morse won the high jump at 1.83m, the Scots 17th all-time win in the event and first since 2014. Patrick Curry (Chicago, Illinois) took fourth with an indoor PR of 1.90m and Foglesong was sixth with a PR of 1.80m. Luke Reavis (Buena Vista, Colorado) scored a point with an eighth place finish at 1.70m.

Ruffin repeated as triple jump champion with a season-best performance of 13.90m. The win is the 18th all-time in the event for the Scots. Damone Johnson (Macomb, Illinois) picked up two points with a seventh-place finish on a PR jump of 12.62m.

Da'Von Patterson (Ponte Vedra, Florida) finished third in the 200m at 22.26 seconds. He was also fifth in the 400m with an indoor PR of 50.57 seconds ane he placed sixth in the 60m finals at 7.03 seconds.

Foglesong finished fifth in the 60m hurdles, tying his PR set on Friday at 8.67 seconds.

Blake Orwig (Wyoming, Illinois) finished fifth in the weight throw at 16.19m with Michael Moreno (Galesburg, Illinois) in sixth at 15.82m. Gunner Bryant (Curryville, Missouri) placed seventh with a throw of 15.31m, earning two points.

The Distance Medley Relay team of Xander Stoub (Palos Heights, Illinois), Anthony Arambula (Dension, Illinois), Braden Young (Paxton, Illinois) and Fernando Avila Rubio (Alpha, Illinois) finished fifth in 10:55.74.

The 4x400m relay team of Andrew Peterson (Galessburg, Illinois), Morse, Jerry Reed (Danville, Illinois) and Patterson finished fifth in a season-best 3:30.18

The men had finished either first or second at the indoor championships every year since a 3rd place finish in 1999. The last fourth-place finish was in 1988

WOMEN

Braun doubled up her shot put win from Friday by winning the weight throw on Saturday and sweeping the throw events. This marks the fifth year in a row the Scots have won the weight throw and the 18th time overall. Maddie Boley won the last two while Addi Cox won in 2023 and Kareema Lawal in 2022. Her winning throw of 16.52m is a PR and the seventh-best throw in Monmouth history.

Jillian Toth (El Paso, Illinois) finished second with a throw of 16.20m and Brynn Hogan (Galena, Missouri) was sixth at 15.02m to earn three points.

Maddie Rusk (Annawan, Illinois) finished second in the triple jump with an indoor PR of 10.38m. On the track she was fifth in the 60m finals with a time of 8.18 seconds. She was also eighth in the 200 at 27.10 seconds.

The 4x400m relay team of Rusk, Sophia Kern (Abington, Illinois), A'yiana Maxwell (Peoria, Illinois) and Melissa Bivolarov (Arlington Heights, Illinois) picked up two points with a seventh place finish in a season-best 4:37.91.

The Scots did not have a women's Distance Medley Relay team.

The women's team had finished top two in every indoor meet since 2015 and top four in every meet dating back to 1990.

Select members of the Fighting Scots will compete at Last Chance Qualifiers next weekend in an attempt to qualify for the NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships.
