Metcalf, Cox Named Midwest Conference Performers of the Week

Second honor this season for Metcalf

MONMOUTH, Ill. (01/17/2023) — Two Monmouth College student-athletes were honored on Tuesday as Midwest Conference Performers of the Week for their respective sports. For men's basketball, senior forward Jordan Metcalf (Aledo, Illinois) was honored after helping the Scots to a 2-0 week while senior thrower Addi Cox (Morton, Illinois) won the field award for track & field after a strong season-opener meet.

Metcalf averaged 23.5 ppg and 12.5 rpg last week while shooting 76% (19-for-25) from the field. On Wednesday, Metcalf was 11-for-17 from the floor and finished with 27 points and 14 rebounds on the road as the Scots rallied from 24 points down to beat Grinnell.

He was a perfect 8-for-8 from the field on Saturday as the Scots knocked off last year's MWC regular season champions Ripon. Metcalf added four free throws to finish with 20 points and 11 rebounds for a second straight double-double. Metcalf added three assists and a steal on the week while making 9-of-12 shots from the line.

On the season, Metcalf leads the Scots in scoring (14.9 ppg), rebounding (8.6 ppg), FG% (.614), FTM (44), blocks (16) and ranks second in steals (18). He has scored at least 10 points in 12 of the 16 games and Metcalf has five 20+ point games. He's grabbed at least five rebounds in 15 games, 10+ rebounds in six games and has five double-doubles. Metcalf leads the MWC in FG shooting percentage and ranks in the top five in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots.

This is the second Performer of the Week award for Metcalf this season as he also earned the honor in the first week of the campaign. The Scots host Cornell on Tuesday night and travel to Lawrence on Saturday.

Cox Wins Track Award

Cox, a senior thrower, had a great start to the 2023 season at Friday night's Monmouth Midwest Invitational. She won the shot put with a throw of 12.04m and finished second to teammate Amanda Dybal (Apex, North Carolina) in the weight throw at 15.32m. The win in the shot put was the first meet title for Cox in a Monmouth uniform and the Fighting Scots swept all four throwing events in the meet.

Both throws on Friday night marked new personal records for Cox. Her shot put throw was a new career-high by 0.18m and her weight throw was a new PR by 0.39m. Those performances rank Cox 1st in the Midwest Conference in the shot put and second in the weight throw. She also ranks nationally among Division III throwers in both categories, 30th in the weight and 48th in the shot put.

Cox and the Fighting Scots head to the Bumble Rumble on Saturday. The event, hosted by St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa, starts at 11 a.m. for field events and noon for track events.
