Shimmin, McKinley Win Doubles Consolation Final at MWC Tournament

Stefanova collects 20th career singles win

MONMOUTH, Ill (10/20/2024) — The Monmouth College women's tennis team finished their 2024 fall season with the Midwest Conference Individual Tournament in Madison, Wisconsin on Saturday and Sunday. The highlight on Sunday was a win in the #3 doubles consolation final by Jennifer Shimmin (Monmouth, Illinois) and Alayna McKinley (Rock Island, Illinois).

At #1 singles Ivana Stefanova (Streamwood, Illinois) was the #3 seed and beat Alyssa Wise from Illinois College 6-0, 6-2 in the first round. In the semifinals she lost to #2 Erin Jarvis from Grinnell 6-0, 6-2. The first round win is the 20th singles win of Stefanova's career and she ranks fifth on the Monmouth career list after two seasons.

At #2 singles, Natalie Labicki (Antioch, Illinois) was the #5 seed and she upset Clara Hills of Lawrence 7-5, 6-3 in the first round. In the semifinals she lost to top seed Lilli Dockal of Lake Forest 6-1, 6-0.

At #3 singles, Kimber Calvert (Paris, Illinois) was the #6 seed and she lost to #3 Sophie Muir of Illinois College 6-1, 6-0. In the consolation semifinals she lost to #7 Hadley Berendsen of Ripon 8-2.

At #4 singles, Shimmin was the #5 seed and she lost to #4 Lilly Ingram of IC 6-0, 6-0. She had a bye in the consolation semifinals and lost in the consolation final 8-4 to Tess McGlenn of Lawrence.

At #5 singles, Natalie Holst (East Moline, Illinois) was the #4 seed and she beat #5 Isabella Wallin Cornell. 6-1, 6-2 in the first round, Holst fell to #1 Alyssa Trapp of Grinnell 6-3, 6-0 in the semifinals.

At #6 singles, McKinley was the #7 seed and she lost to #2 Olivia Pandazi of Lake Forest 6-1, 6-0. In the consolation semifinals she lost to #6 Madi Mischica of Lawrence 8-4.

At #1 doubles, Stefanova and Labicki were the #5 seed and they beat Wise/Muir from IC 8-6 in the first round. In the semifinals they lost to top seeded Strupovets/Dockal of Lake Forest 8-3.

At #2 doubles, Calvert and Holst as #6 seeds lost to Maag/Imgram of IC 8-1. In the consolation semifinals they face #7 Polyak/Berendsen Ripon 8-5 before falling 8-1 to Hills/McGlenn of Lawrence in the consolation final.

At #3 doubles, Shimmin and McKinley as #6 seeds lost to Small/Wallin of Cornell 8-3. In the consolation semifinals they beat #7 Jatta/Mishica Lawrence 8-1 before beating Pavlovec/Skoglund of Ripon 8-5,
