Main, Walker Score in Soccer Loss
MONMOUTH, Ill (09/14/2023) — The Monmouth College women's soccer team scored in both halves but fell 6-2 to the University of Dubuque at home on Wednesday night. Madison Walker (Vernon Hills, Illinois) and Natalya Main (Peoria, Illinois) both scored for the second straight home game and freshman Danielle Beach (Geneseo, Illinois) provided another assist.
The Spartans took the lead in the 18th minute and threatened to add more but goalkeeper Lea Selquist (Peru, Illinois) made a handful of big saves. Walker tied the game in the 37th minute with an unassisted goal, her fourth at home this season and seventh overall.
Dubuque took the lead before halftime on an own goal by the Scots who were attempting to clear a corner kick. They scored two penalty kicks in the span of a minute to take a 4-1 lead early in the second half.
Trailing 6-1, the Scots scored the final goal of the game in the 80th minute. Beach fired a shot off the Spartans goalkeeper and Main buried the rebound for her third goal of the season.
MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Selquist made eight saves in 68 minutes and Anna Caster (Greenfield, Illinois) made three saves in 22 minutes/ Dubuque outshot Monmouth 33-11 and shots on goal were 16-6/ Beach had three shots on goal to lead Monmouth/ Avery Parks (Bloomington, Illinois) and Elizabeth Schmidt (Waverly, Iowa) played all 90 minutes. The Scots are back home on Saturday at 11 a.m. against Augustana. Saturday is Senior Day and the Fighting Scots seniors will be honored at 10:45 a.m.
