Boley, Dybal, Toberman Win Individual Conference Championships on Friday

Scots women in 2nd, men in 3rd heading into Saturday

MONMOUTH, Ill. (05/12/2023) — The Monmouth College track and field teams won three individual Midwest Conference championships on Friday in the opening day of the 2023 MWC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Grinnell, Iowa. After the first of two days, the women are in second place overall and the men are in third place in the team standings.

Women
Amanda Dybal (Apex, North Carolina) won the hammer throw, the first event of the day. She topped the event with a 45.88m throw while Maddie Boley (Beecher, Illinois) finished fourth at 42.93m and Addi Cox (Morton, Illinois) was fifth at 42.62m.

Boley defended her discus title from last May with a win at 43.67m. Dybal finished third in the discus at 41.06m and Kayla Braun (Evansville, Illinois) finished ninth with a career-best 35.97m. Dybal picked up another third place finish with a 33.10m throw in the javelin.

The Scots finished second, third, fourth and sixth in the pole vault. Linsey Turner (Elburn, Illinois) and Miranda Hursey (Hanna City, Illinois) both cleared 3.04 with Turner taking second on the tiebreaker and Hursey taking third. Delaney Rexroat (Monmouth, Illinois) finished fourth at 2.74m while Megan Dailey (Pendleton, Indiana) scored points with a sixth place finish at 2.44m.

Alyssa Villarreal (Galesburg, Illinois) finished fourth in the long jump at 5.16m. Maddie Rusk (Annawan, Illinois) finished seventh with a PR jump of 5.05m and Turner finished ninth at 4.75m.

Lauren Anderson scored points in the high jump with a seventh place finish at 1.47m.

Villarreal qualified in the sixth spot for Saturday's 100m finals with a career-best time of 12.74. Rusk also qualified for the finals, taking eighth in the prelims with a season-best 12.86 seconds.

The Scots have 72 points after Friday's opening day, 14 points behind Ripon.

Men
Caleb Toberman.(Clifton, Illinois) won the hammer throw at 50.21m. Toberman also won the weight throw at the indoor championships in February and qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships.Shane Anderson (Lisle, Illinois) took third place at 46.54m with Blake Orwig (Wyoming, Illinois) in eighth at 40.55m.

Toberman took second in the discus with a career-best throw of 44.18m. Anderson finished fourth in the discus with a career-best of 41.25m.

Reed Wilson (Normal, Illinois) finished second in the pole vault at 4.71m. Reed Bona (Dyersburg, Tennessee) finished third at a season-best 4.26m and Riley Bernas (Aurora, Illinois) took seventh at 3.81m.

Eli Newton (Dallas City, Illinois) got seventh in the 1500m with a career-best 4:06.54.

Peter Soutsos (Highland Park, Illinois) qualified for Saturday's 110m hurdles final. The freshman ran a season and career best 16.41 seconds to finish third in the preliminaries. Bona qualified for the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:00.01.

Adrian Outlaw (Galesburg, Illinois) qualified third for the 400m Finals with a time of 50.08 seconds. Patrick Curry Jr. (Chicago, Illinois) also qualified for the finals with a time of 50.93. Both freshmen ran career bests to qualify for the eight-man field.

Outlaw also ran a season best 22.50 seconds to qualify for Saturday's 200m final. His time on Friday was the fifth best in the preliminaries.

The men have 47.5 points after Friday, a half point behind Grinnell and 26.5 points behind defending champion Ripon.

NEXT UP:

The Midwest Conference Championships continue on Saturday at Grinnell. The first event is scheduled for 9 a.m. and the final event is scheduled for 12:10 p.m. The schedule was altered due to alleged inclement weather on Saturday.

The new schedule includes the men's high jump, both men's and women's triple jump and both men's and women's shot put. The track events start with the 4x100m relay at 9 a.m. The 3000m steeplechase, 100/110m hurdles, 400m, 100m and 800m follow with the women running before the men. The final wave of events starts at 11 a.m. with the 400 hurdles, 200m, 5000m and finishing with the 4x400m relay.
