Cross Country Competes at Les Duke Invitational in Iowa

Dulin, Baltierra-Chavez Log Top Times for Scots Runners

MONMOUTH, Ill. (09/12/2021) — The Monmouth College men's and women's cross country teams ran in the Les Duke Invitational in Grinnell, Iowa on Saturday. The men finished seventh in the 8,000-meter course while the women finished sixth as a team in their 6,000-meter course.

The men were paced by senior Riley Dulin (Monmouth, Illinois) who finished 19th overall at 27:10.4. Senior C.J Bonifer (Columbia, Kentucky) finished 38th at 29:13.0 with junior Jonah Cecil (Farmington, Illinois) in 46th at 30:15.9. Freshman Eli Newton (Dallas City, Illinois) ran 30:34.7 to finish 48th, just ahead of sophomore Neo Colter (Geneseo, Illinois) at 31:03.9. A pair of freshmen, Xavion York (Palo Seco, Trinidad & Tobago) at 31:19.3 and Dawson Hensley (Knoxville, Illinois) at 31:55.6 rounded out the squad.

On the women's side, senior Ezzie Baltierra-Chavez (Denver, Colorado) posted the top time at 25:19.1 in 21st place. Senior Arika Hofmann (Monmouth, Illinois) finished 25th at 25:33.8 while senior Mik Moore (Washington, Illinois) was 29th at 25:47.2. Junior Gabriela Peterson (Southwick, Massachusetts) finished 33rd at 26:42.2. Junior Nyasiana Kwamboka (Nairobi, Kenya) was 47th at 29:08.3 and sophomore Lindsay Eaton (Danvers, Illinois) was 49th at 29:56.9.

Wartburg College won both the men's and women's events. Host Grinnell College was the only other Midwest Conference team in the field, finishing fifth in the men's race and third on the women's event.

The Scots are next in action on Friday, Sept. 17 in the Bradley Intercollegiate in Peoria.
