Dato, Garrett Sweep Midwest Conference Player of the Week Awards

MONMOUTH, Ill. (04/19/2021) — Mike Dato (Oswego, Illinois) and Jeff Garrett (Aledo,Illinois) gave the Monmouth College baseball team a clean sweep of the Midwest Conference Baseball Performer of the Week Awards on Monday.

Dato, a senior first baseman, tied the Scots single-game home run and RBI records on Sunday when he clubbed three homers and drove in eight runs in the second game of a double header at Grinnell. In four games last week Dato was 8-for-15 at the plate with three homers, 11 RBI, five walks, three runs scored and he was hit by a pitch. He helped the Scots to a 3-1 record with 48 runs scored in four games by batting .533 with a .667 on-base percentage and a 1.133 slugging percentage. Dato previously won the MWC Performer of the Week Award on April 8, 2019.

Garrett, a sophomore left handed-pitcher, made his first start at Glasgow Park on Monday and shutout Knox College 9-0. Garrett went the distance as he struck out 11, walked three and allowed just two singles in the nine-inning complete game shutout. Garrett was scheduled to return to the mound on Tuesday but the Scots double header against Cornell at Glasgow Park has been postponed due to inclement weather. The Scots will now host Cornell for two games at Noon on Thursday while playing four games agianst Illinois College this weekend. The first two will be in Jacksonville, Illinois on Saturday with the last two in Monmouth on Sunday.
