DeLeeuw Scores but Scots Fall Wednesday
Monmouth Loses at Millikin 3-1
MONMOUTH, Ill. (09/23/2021) — The Monmouth College women's soccer team got a late goal on Wednesday night but it wasn't enough to prevent a 3-1 loss at Millikin. The Scots equaled Millikin with six shots on goal but ultimately fall to 1-6 on the season.
The Big Blue scored just over seven minutes into the game on a deflection and the score remained 1-0 through the rest of the first half.
"We controlled possession and had the most consistent attack we've had all season," said coach Lucas Henderson.
Millikin doubled the lead eight minutes into the second half and eventually made it 3-0 with just under seven minutes to play. The Scots got on the board with 2:46 to play as Millikin was whistled for a foul in the box. Hadyn DeLeeuw (Kirksville, Missouri) stepped up and drilled the penalty kick for her first goal of the season.
"Millikin did a better job converting than we did and that's what we need to learn from," said Henderson. "Madison (Walker) was incredible again tonight and the Gosell's were both strong and consistent"
