Donohoo, Knapp Lead Scots Lacrosse to 2-0 Start

MONMOUTH, Ill. (03/01/2022) — The Monmouth College men's lacrosse team played their first road game of the season on Tuesday and won at Wabash 9-7. The Scots are now 2-0 on the season with another road game coming up this weekend.

After giving up a goal just over six minutes into the game, the Scots tied it up with 4:51 to play, Kain Donohoo (St. Charles, Illinois) netted his first goal of the season, unassisted, with the teams at even strength. With just 14 seconds to go in the quarter, Jeff Knapp (Nolensville, Tennessee) scored his fifth goal of the season to put the Scots on top 2-1.

The Scots grabbed the first goal of the second quarter as Donohoo scored with 11:12 to go in the quarter, assisted by Gordon Kiesgen (Spring Grove, Illinois). Wabash answered less than a minute later to cut the Scots lead to 3-2. Wabash tied the game but Knapp put the Scots back on top with a man-up goal at the 4:34 mark. The little Giants tied the game again and the score was 4-4 at halftime.

The Scots regained the lead early in the third quarter as LH Bond (Fishers, Indiana) scored his fourth goal of the season. Just 10 seconds later, at the 8:33 mark, Knapp bagged his third goal of the day for a 6-4 lead. With 6:09 to play, Donohoo scored his third of the game, assisted by Mike Casey (Chicago, Illinois) to put Monmouth on top 7-4.

Neither team scored for the first nine minutes of the fourth quarter. Wabash got on the board to make it 8-5 with 5:17 left. But three seconds later Kiesgen scored after winning the faceoff to restore the four-goal lead. The Little Giants scored with 2:46 left but Monmouth won the ensuing faceoff and ran more than a minute off the clock before turning the ball over.
