Elizabeth Schmidt Scores Four Goals in Lacrosse Loss
Scots fall to Illinois Tech 16-4 on Saturday
MONMOUTH, Ill. (03/25/2023) — The Monmouth College women's lacrosse team got four goals from junior Elizabeth Schmidt (Waverly, Iowa) in a 16-4 home loss to Illinois Tech on Saturday.
Illinois Tech scored 38 seconds into the game and built a 4-0 lead. After having a goal disallowed, Schmidt got the Scots on the board with 8:47 to go in the quarter. Kaylee Doebert (Mount Horeb, Wisconsin) had the assist, her first of the season.
Illinois Tech led 5-1 after the first quarter and built a 12-1 lead. Schmidt scored her second goal of the game with 1:20 to play in the half, coming on a free position attempt.
Monmouth started the second half with a goal as Schmidt completed the hat-trick on another assist from Doebert. The Scarlet Hawks pushed the lead back to 15-3 to end the third quarter.
Schmidt scored her fourth goal of the game with 13:59 to play and Illinois Tech answered with 8:34 to play. Monmouth had a goal disallowed in the closing minutes but neither team scored down the stretch.
Lea Selquist (Peru, Illinois) made 13 saves in the game. Anna Davison (Bettendorf, Iowa) led the Scots with four ground balls and four caused turnovers.
MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Schmidt has scored in all four games and leads the Scots with seven goals. The free position goal was the first of the season. Schmidt had a career-high four goalsIn her first season. Doebert picked up her first career assists. The Scots are next in action on Tuesday with a 5 p.m. game at Wartburg.
