Four in Double Figures as Scots win at Illinois Tech

Harlan, Mitchell both net 15 in win

MONMOUTH, Ill. (11/19/2022) — The Monmouth College women's basketball team kicked into gear late in the second quarter and pulled away for an 81-56 road win over Illinois Tech. The Scots (2-2) have won two straight this week and will play their home opener at 6 p.m. Monday against MSOE.

After trailing early, by as many as eight, the Scots got going late in the first quarter. Tarae Warner (Burlington, Iowa) hit two free throws, Ashley Jones (Abingdon, Illinois) made a 3-pointer and Jadyn Mitchell (Flanagan, Illinois) made a layup to tie the game at 11 with 3:43 left in the quarter. A free throw from Ella Goodrich (Minonk, Illinois) gave the Scots a 14-13 lead and Monmouth led 18-17 after the first quarter.

Lily Harlan (Washington, Illinois) started the second quarter with a layup and a 3-pointer from Goodrich pushed the lead to six. Illinois Tech caught up and took a 28-26 lead but then went the final 3:46 of the half without a field goal. The Scots finished the half on a 15-1 run with baskets from four different players. Mitchell hit a pair of 3-pointers in the run and Zoie Wall (Bartonville, Illinois) also made a 3-pointer.

Wall scored to start the third quarter, pushing the lead to 13 before Illinois Tech got a bucket. Warner scored the next four points and a layup from Jones gave the Scots a 17-point lead. Audrey Law (Bloomington, Indiana) scored for a 20-point lead and Harlan gave the scots a 57-37 lead .

Olivia Dinges (Amboy, Illinois) scored four straight points in the fourth quarter for a 63-39 lead. Wall made a 3-pointer and Harlan hit one as well as the Scots built the lead to 29 with 4:33 to play. Warner's 3-pointer pushed the lead to 32 and the lead grew to 33 with 2:08 to play as Lauren Millhiser (Des Plaines, Illinois) made a layup. Illinois Tech finished the game on a 10-2 run, including a 3-point play with one second left to provide the final score of 81-56.

The Scots had 17 players see action in the game and 12 players scored at least two points. Harlan and Mitchell both scored 15 points while Wall and Warner had 12 each. Harlan and Wall both made runs at a triple-double in the game. Wall finished with 12 points, nine rebounds and eight assists while Harlan had 15 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. Mitchell was 3-of-4 from 3-point range and the Scots made 9-of-19 as a team.

The Scots won't play on the road again until going to Beloit College on Dec. 3, The next three games are at home with MSOE visiting Glennie Gym at 6 p.m. Monday. Monmouth will host Dominican next Saturday at 2 p.m. and open Midwest Conference play on Nov. 29 against Lake Forest.
