Men's Hoops Falls at Dubuque on Friday

MONMOUTH, Ill. (11/18/2023) — The Monmouth College men's basketball team returned to the road on Friday night and lost at Dubuque 77-60. The Scots (1-3) return home on Tuesday for a non-conference game against Blackburn.

Dubuque started by scoring the first nine points of the game before David Williams (Loves Park, Illinois) got on the board for the Scots. Declan Flynn (Monmouth, Illinois) came off the bench and scored white Turner Plumer (Canton, Illinois) also scored. Williams scored the next five points for Monmouth to cut the Spartans lead to 16-11. Jason Huber (Carpentersvtlle, Illinois) and Kyle Taylor (Moline, Illinois) both made 3-pointers over the next few possessions. Max Maring (Port Byron, Illinois) also knocked down a 3-pointer to cut the Dubuque lead to 28-26 with 3:36 left in the half. Dubuque pushed the lead back to six before Taylor scored and Dubuque led 34-30 at the half.

Plumer scored on the first possession of the second half but Dubuque scored the next five points to lead 39-32. Jordan Hill (Chicago, Illinois) and Taylor scored but the Spartans extended the lead to 46-36. Ryne Schimmel (Moline, Illinois) hit a 3-pointer to get the lead back in single digits and Taylor scored for a 49-43 game. The Spartans went on a 20-4 run to lead 69-47 with 5:00 to play. The Scots got six straight points from Plumer and trailed 74-50 before going to the bench. Junior Sylvestre (Fort Myers, Florida) hit a 3-pointer, Tyler Harms (Flanagan, Illinois) made two free throws and Damarian Stark (Roscoe, Illinois) scored in the final minutes as Dubuque won 77-60.

Taylor led the Scots with 13 points while both Williams and Plumer had nine. Williams led the team with six rebounds while Taylor and Flynn had three assists each.
