Simons, Knapp honored after 14-12 win

MONMOUTH, Ill. (02/21/2022) — Fresh off a season-opening win on Saturday, the Monmouth College men's lacrosse team swept the Midwest Lacrosse Conference Player of the Week awards on Monday. Senior Jeff Knapp (Nolensville, Tennessee) was named Offensive Player of the Week while junior goalkeeper Teagan Simons (Littleton, Colorado) was named Defensive Player of the Week.

Knapp scored the Scots first goal of the season on Saturday and added three more in the 14-12 win. He finished the game with four goals, two assists, six points and nine shots on goal. Knapp has 102 career points, most in Monmouth history and he's also the career leader with 87 goals scored.

Simons made 22 saves in the win and also collected seven ground balls. The junior has a school-record 11 wins in goal for his career and tied Grant Miller for most starts by a goalie at 16.

Last season Simons was named MLC Defensive Player of the Week twice and Knapp was named Offensive Player of the Week once. Both players were MLC All-Conference in 2021, leading the Scots to the conference finals.

The Scots will be at home Tuesday with a 6 p.m. contest against Concordia-Chicago. Fans can access live stats or watch the live stream at monmouthscots.com or follow on twitter @MonmouthGameday.
