Men's Soccer Falls in Season Opener on Friday Night

MONMOUTH, Ill. (09/02/2023) — The Monmouth College men's soccer team started the season with a 6-0 loss at Loras College on Friday. The Scots will play their first home game of the season at 1 p.m. on Sunday against Depauw.

Loras scored 1:27 into the contest and doubled the lead inside the first 10 minutes. The game was still 2-0 at halftime. The Duhawks scored twice in a five-minute span to double the lead and they added two more goals in the final 12 minutes for the 6-0 final.

Christopher Zavala (New Lenox, Illinois) and Alejandro Zamarripa (El Paso, Texas) both played in goal for the Scots. Zavala played the first 79:15 and made 10 saves. Zamarripa made his college debut with a save in the final 10:45. Isaac Price (Peoria, Illinois) had the Scots lone shot in the game.

MONMOUTH MOMENTS: The Scots played 13 newcomers, including eight starters/ Former MWC All-Conference defender and 2023 Monmouth alum Jaxon Coleman started against the Scots as he is now a graduate student at Loras. The Scots play at home against Depauw on Sunday for the home opener. Kickoff is schedule for 1 p.m.
