Men's Soccer Falls to Grinnell on Saturday
MONMOUTH, Ill. (09/19/2026) — The Monmouth College men's soccer team started Midwest Conference play at home on Saturday with a 4-0 loss to undefeated Grinnell.
The Pioneers scored the opener off a turnover and a corner kick just two minutes into the game. Eighty seconds later they made it 2-0 and they forced a save by Luis Villa (El Paso, Texas) in the seventh minute.
After the early onslaught, the Scots had a corner kick and a couple of shots but couldn't break through. Villa made another save but Grinnell made it 3-0 in the 35th minute. They added a fourth just five minutes into the second half.
MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Monmouth had four shots on goal one each by Owen Murray (Cedar City, Utah),Isai Barajas (El Paso, Texas), Alex Franco (El Paso, Texas) and Mubaraq Basheer (Katy, Texas) ... Villa played all 90 minutes in goal and made six saves ... Grinnell outshot the Scots 19-5 ... Grinnell won 1-0 last year and they lead the all-time series 50-11-1 ... The last time the teams play in Monmouth, the Fighting Scots won 1-0 on October 29, 2024 ... The Scots travel to Illinois Wesleyan on Sunday for a 1 p.m. game ... The next home game is next Saturday at 11 a.m. against Lawrence.
