Men's Tennis Falls at IWU
MONMOUTH, Ill. (02/19/2023) — The Monmouth College men's tennis team opened the season with a 9-0 loss at Illinois Wesleyan University. The match was played indoors at the Evergreen Racquet Club in Bloomington on Saturday.
Playing at No. 1 doubles, Sawyer Day (Cupertino, California) and Nick Robertson (Covington, Georgia) lost 8-1. Spencer Corn (Kansas City, Missouri) and Andrew Nickols (Janesville, Wisconsin) lost 8-0 at No. 2 doubles. Monmouth only had five players at the match so the Scots forfeited No. 3 doubles and No 6 singles.
The Scots lost 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4 singles. Robertson won four games at No. 2 but fell 6-1, 6-3 and freshman Macaden Sepich (Mackinaw, Illinois) lost his first college match 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5.
The Scots (0-1) and Titans (2-3) last played in 2016, a 6-3 win for Monmouth. Saturday was the first men's match for coach Brian Dahlstrom, who coached the women in the fall. The Scots are off until the home opener on March 30 against St. Ambrose.
