Men's Tennis Season Ends at MWC Tournament
MONMOUTH, Ill. (04/26/2026) — The Monmouth College men's tennis team finished their season as the Midwest Conference Individual Tournament this weekend in Madison, Wisconsin.
At No. 1 singles, Matthew Savage (Washington, Illinois) lost 6-1, 6-0 against Lawrence in the first round and 8-0 to Illinois College in the consolations.
At No. 2 singles, Antonio Perez (St. George, Utah) fell 6-1, 6-1 to Cornell in the first round and 8-4 to Ripon in the consolation.
Macaden Sepich (Mackinaw, Illinois) played at No. 3 singles and lost 6-0, 6-2 in the first round against Lake Forest. In the consolations he fell 8-3 to Ripon.
Caden De Jong (Freeport, Illinois) made the consolation finals at No. 4 singles. He lost to Lake Forest 6-0, 6-2 in the first round before beating Ripon 8-2 in the consolation semifinals. In the consolation finals on Sunday, De Jong lost 8-4 to Lawrence.
Freshman Chase Sims (Tiskilwa, Illinois) lost 6-0, 6-0 to Cornell in the first round. He won 8-0 in the consolation semifinals before falling 8-3 to Illinois College in the final.
Alfonso Mares (Oak Lawn, Illinois) lost 6-2, 6-0 to Cornell in the first round at No. 6 singles. He beat Ripon 8-5 before falling in the consolation finals 8-2 to Illinois College.
Savage and Perez played at No. 1 doubles and lost 8-2 to Cornell and 8-1 to Ripon. Sepich and De Jong played at No. 2 and lost 8-6 to Illinois College and 8-7 (4) to Ripon. Sims and Mares fell 8-1 to Cornell and 8-6 to Lawrence.
