Monmouth, Midwest Conference, Set Attendance Policies for Spring Sports

Next Athletic Event is Baseball DH on Saturday

MONMOUTH, Ill. (03/11/2021) — A limited number of spectators will be allowed at Monmouth College's home spring outdoor sports competitions, College officials announced Thursday.

Monmouth's next home spring athletics event is a baseball doubleheader scheduled for noon Saturday afternoon at Glasgow Field Peacock Memorial Athletic Park.

"We are very happy to see the return of intercollegiate sports competition," said Monmouth President Clarence R. Wyatt. "Athletics is an important part of the experience of many of our students, and we are grateful to our coaches and student-athletes for their patience and determination over these past months.

"The virus is still with us, and we must all continue to follow the health and safety practices that have been with us this past year. But with the growing availability of vaccines and the continuing decline of cases, we have reason for optimism. Spring is coming in more ways than one."

For all Monmouth home events, every Monmouth player will receive a family pass for two spectators. A total of 50 tickets for other College faculty, staff and students will be available 48 hours prior to a contest in the Huff Center Office, with one ticket available per person. Remaining tickets will be available at the gate on game day.

Visiting spectators and the general public will not be allowed into any Monmouth building.

All spectators who attend spring competitions at Monmouth must adhere to the following rules:

For spectators who attend events at April Zorn Memorial Stadium and the Fighting Scots Softball Field, restrooms will be available in Hewes Library and Stockdale Student Center. Port-a-potties will be available for spectators at Peacock Memorial Athletic Park.

"We are doing more than most members of the Midwest Conference," said Monmouth Director of Athletics Roger Haynes. "The restrictions we have in place are for the safety and well-being of our student-athletes, coaches, officials, trainers and Tier 1 employees."

The Midwest Conference also announced on Thursday that a decision about spectators at MWC Spring Championships will be announced later this spring. The conference also affirmed its intention to return to full league competition this fall for the sports of football, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer, women's tennis and volleyball.

The MWC and its members will continue to monitor the public health situation as well as the updated federal, state (Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin), and local guidelines regarding health and safety throughout the summer. Schedules are subject to change pending the most current recommendations and advisories.
