Monmouth Baseball Team Earns Sixth Straight ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award
MONMOUTH, Ill. (07/24/2024) — The Monmouth College baseball team was honored Wednesday by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) with their sixth consecutive Team Academic Excellence Award. The 2023-24 ABCA Team Academic Excellence Awards are presented by Sports Attack and teams are required to post a GPA of at least 3.0.
"I'm very proud of the team to earn this award for a sixth straight season," said head coach Alan Betourne. "It is not easy being a student-athlete with some of the work load our guys have. It speaks to how much effort they put into their academic work for us to achieve this honor from the ABCA."
The baseball program also had the maximum five players chose Academic All-District by College Sports Communicators in May and earlier this month 10 players were named the Midwest Conference All-Academic selections
The American Baseball Coaches Association has a long tradition of recognizing the achievements of baseball coaches and student-athletes. The ABCA/Rawlings All-America Teams are the nation's oldest, founded in 1949, and the ABCA's awards program also includes the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Awards, the ABCA/ATEC Regional & National Coaches of the Year and several other major awards such as the ABCA Hall of Fame and the Dave Keilitz Ethics in Coaching Award.
