Monmouth College to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day with talk about 'Sowing Seeds of Legacy'
Monmouth, Ill. (01/14/2022) — Monmouth College will commemorate the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. with a talk by alumnus Ed Wimp '12 at noon on Jan. 17 in Dahl Chapel and Auditorium.
The title of Wimp's talk is "Sowing Seeds of Legacy." It was originally scheduled to be given in front of a live audience, in conjunction with student performances, but concerns over the recent rise in COVID cases has changed it to a Zoom event at this link.
An afternoon of community service projects for Monmouth students was to follow Wimp's talk, but the pandemic also caused the College to cancel that portion of the celebration.
A lawyer who lives in Apopka, Florida, Wimp began his legal career defending insurance companies in workers' compensation disputes at a statewide civil trial defense law firm. He now specializes in defending clients who have been victims of wrongful termination, discrimination and unpaid wages, as well as whistle-blowers.
Pro bono work is a cornerstone of his legal career, as he volunteers guardian ad litem for children in need, serves as a legal observer to protect the rights of demonstrators in peaceful protests, and aids in providing legal services to artists through Lawyers for the Creative Arts.
