Monmouth Volleyball Team Wins at Lake Forest
Wright Delivers 15 Kills in Win
MONMOUTH, Ill. (10/03/2021) — The Monmouth College volleyball team went on the road Saturday and beat Lake Forest College 3-1 in a Midwest Conference matchup. The Scots (8-9, 1-2) won the match 25-23, 25-23, 24-26, 25-20 to pick up their first conference win of the season.
The Scots came out swinging as they hit .314 in the first set and took the opener by two points. The kills were down in the second set but Monmouth again won by two as the Foresters made 10 attack errors.
After dropping a tightly contested third set, the Scots saved their best for last. They hit .324 with 16 kills in the fourth set and clinched the match on an attack error after the Foresters won two points in a row.
"The team's confidence showed today," said coach Emily Thebeau. "They put all the puzzle pieces together and found their potential. Every set was tight so seeing the team fight and be gritty is one of the most fun things to watch as a coach. We can only continue to grow and go up from here."
For the match the Scots were led by freshman Layne Wright (Davenport, Iowa) with 15 kills while Megan Kimble (Farmington, Illinois) had 10. Karlie Drish (Milan, Illinois) handed out 35 assists over the four-set win while Kaylee Woodard (Monmouth, Illinois) had 17 digs.
Monmouth had 12 blocks in the match, led by Kimble with four and Amanda Dybal (Apex, North Carolina) with three. Wright, Loryn Beal (Pontiac, Illinois) and Sarah LaHood (East Peoria, Illinois) all had two aces in the win.
The Scots will be back in action at Illinois College on Friday with a non-conference home match against Webster next Saturday.
