Monmouth stormed back in the second half of a 72-62 win over Cornell to stay tied with Ripon atop the Midwest Conference.

Trailing 40-31 at the half, the Scots rallied in the second half, using a 9-1 run late in the third quarter to cut the margin to one at 51-50 with 1:34 left in the period. Tarae Warner then hit three free throws in the final minute of the quarter to send Monmouth into the final 10 minutes tied at 54-all.

The Scots completed the comeback after outscoring the Rams 23-14 in the third quarter, with an 18-8 fourth quarter advantage. Nursing a 63-62 lead with 1:44 left in the game, Carley Turnbull canned a pair of free throws and a minute later Becca Gallis drained a 3-pointer to push the margin to 68-62. The Scots closed out the game with a 4-for-4 effort from the free throw line in the final 28 seconds.

Gallis paced Monmouth with 23 points while Warner, Turnbull and Zoie Wall chipped in 10 each.

Monmouth hosts Grinnell Saturday in a 3 p.m. tip.
