Murray, Barajas Score in 3-2 Sunday Loss

MONMOUTH, Ill. (09/13/2026) — The Monmouth College men's soccer team took an early lead on Sunday but ultimately lost 3-2 to Alma College. The game was the second in two days at the Wabash Invitational in Indiana.

Federico Moreno-Reyes (El Paso, Texas) had the first shot on goal but it was saved in the sixth minute. Isai Barajas (El Paso, Texas) put the Scots on top in the 14th minute with his first goal of the game. Alma equalized in the 25th minute and took a 2-1 lead 10 minutes later.

Less than 10 minutes into the second half, Alma made it 3-1. The Fighting Scots bounced right back and got a goal from Owen Murray (Cedar City, Texas) just 90 seconds later. Isaac Price (Peoria, Illinois) picked up the assist for Monmouth.

MONMOUTH MOMENTS: With his 14th career goal, Murray moved into a tie for 10th on the Scots career list ... He is tied with Nico Esparon (2019-22) and Lucas Sondgeroth (2016-19) ... He also moved into 13th on the career points list, moving past Sean Lowery (1995-98) .. Luis Villa (El Paso, Texas) made two saves in goal in the first half and Calvin Cotton (Hernando, Mississippi) made five in the second half ... Alma leads the all-time series 3-0The teams last met in this same event at Wabash in 2024 ... The Scots are next in action in the Midwest Conference opener at home on Saturday with an 11 a.m. kickoff against Grinnell.
