Murray Scores but Scots Fall to Vikings
MONMOUTH, ill. (09/26/2026) — The Monmouth College men's soccer team fell at home to Lawrence 2-1 on Saturday afternoon. Both teams scored on penalty kicks in the first half but the Vikings scored the game winner with just over 20 minutes to play.
The Vikings took the lead on a penalty kick 20 minutes into the game. Just over 15 minutes later the Scots got even on a penalty kick of their own. Owen Murray (Cedar City, Utah) stepped up and buried the spot kick and the teams remained tied through the rest of the half.
The stalemate continued as both teams had chances and Monmouth hit the crossbar twice. But it was Lawrence who came up with the game winner in the 70th minute and they held on to win 2-1.
MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Senior goalkeeper Luis Villa (El Paso, Texas) made five saves ... Murray has 15 career goals ... With 35 career points, Murray moved past Isaac Hernandez (2010-13) and into a tie with Chizobam Nkemah (2012-14) for 11th on the career list ... Villa moved past Matt Hoag (2000-03) into eighth on the career list for starts by a goalkeeper ,,, Murray had two shots on goal ... The teams had tied the last three seasons ...
