Nick Thomas Named MLC Defensive Player of Week

Senior earns honor in Scots 10-6 win

MONMOUTH, Ill. (03/22/2021) — Senior defender Nick Thomas (Elmhurst, Illinois) helped the Monmouth College men's lacrosse team earn a season-opening win on Saturday and on Monday he was named this week's Midwest Lacrosse Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

Thomas started Saturday's contest at long-stick midfield and led the Scots with six caused turnovers in the 10-6 conference win over Northland College. Thomas took two shots in the game and also added four ground balls which ranked third on the team. His six caused turnovers tied a career-high from March 9, 2019 against the University of Northwestern Minnesota.

"I was very impressed by the way Nick played on Saturday and he is very deserving of this conference honor," said head coach Chris Klaiber.

Thomas was a MLC honorable mention selection back in 2019 when he started 10 games. He posted 50 ground balls, 10 caused turnovers, one goal and one assist in 13 total appearances. Last season he had 14 ground balls and caused four turnovers in four games for the Scots. The last Monmouth player to win MLC Defensive Player of the Week was Gordon Kiesgen on Feb. 26, 2020.

The son of Ed and Diane Thomas, Nick is a Music Performance and Psychology major.
