Plumley Finishes Ninth, Nine Scots Set PRs at Gene Davis Invite

MONMOUTH, Ill. (10/12/2024) — The Monmouth College cross country teams ran in the Gene Davis Invitational on Saturday at Lawrence University, site of the Midwest conference Championships next month. Nine Fighting Scots runners set new personal bests and WIlliam Plumley (Geneseo, Illinois) earned a top-10 finish on the men's side.

Plumley finished ninth overall and lowered his PR by nearly a minute with a 25:39.2 finish. Eli Newton (Dallas City, Illinois) finished 54th with a PR of 27:17.4 and freshman Fernando Avila Rubio (Alpha, Illinois) took nearly two minutes off his 8K PR with a time of 27:45.6 as he finished 76th. Xander Stoub (Palos Heights, Illinois) finished 91st in 28:07.3 and freshman Wyatt Beck (Tampico, Illinois) competed for the first time with a 167th place finish in 32:45.1. Freshman Nico Yeo Wiedman (Henry, Illinois) lowered his PR by more than two minutes with a 33:51.0 to finish 173rd. The Scots finished seventh overall with 207 points

All five of the runners on the women's team set new PRs for the 6K distance. Samantha Costello (Morris, Illinois) finished 36th in 25:07.2, a season best by 26 seconds and a PR by 10 seconds. Melissa Bivolarov (Arlington Heights, Illinois) took a minute off her PR time and nearly two minutes off her season best with a 56th place finish in 25:58.2. Freshman Paige Luntsford (Cairo, Missouri) dropped more than two minutes off her PR with a 94th place finish in 27:52.9. Zoey Johnson (Monmouth, Illinois) ran for the first time in her college career and finished 109th in 29:13.6. Kaeley Kent (Springfield, Illinois) took nearly two minutes off her PR and finished in 119th place with a time of 29:53.3. The Scots finished in 11th place as a team.

The Scots compete again next Saturday at the Augustana Interregional in Rock Island, Illinois. The meet will be at Saukie Golf Course, site of the NCAA Midwest Regional on Nov. 16. The Midwest Conference Championships are on Saturday, Nov. 2 in Appleton, Wisconsin
