Schmidt Scores Again but Scots Fall to IC on Tuesday
MONMOUTH, Ill. (10/11/2023) — The Monmouth College women's soccer team allowed two goals in the first half and fell at Illinois College 2-1 on Tuesday. The Scots (3-6-3, 1-2-1) outshot IC for the game and put seven shots on goal in the second half but couldn't find the equalizer.
Illinois College scored in the ninth minute of the game and took a 2-0 lead in the 29th minute. Monmouth won a free kick in the final 90 seconds of the first half and Elizabeth Schmidt (Waverly, Iowa) scored for the second game in a row with 1:11 left before the break.
Monmouth took 11 shots in the second half, seven on goal, but never pulled even. Goalkeeper Anna Caster (Greenfield, Indiana) made three saves in both halves to keep the Scots in the game.
MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Seven Monmouth players, Avery Parks (Bloomington, Illinois), Schmidt Danielle Beach (Geneseo, Illinois), Brooke Gruby (Leonardtown, Maryland), Madison Walker (Vernon Hills, Illinois), Nicole Koppers (Tinley Park, Illinois) and Caster played all 90 minutes. Beach, Walker and Lynn Rech (Vacaville, California) all had four shots on goal. Monmouth out shot IC 22-18 and shots on goal were 14-8... Both teams had four corner kicks. The Scots return home for an 11 a.m. game on Saturday against Lake Forest.
