Monmouth, IL (07/29/2020) — (NOTE: The original release refered to the 2020 season schedule. This update makes note of the Midwest Conference's decision to suspend all sports through Dec. 31 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.)
A team-record GPA has earned the Monmouth College volleyball team the prestigious USMC/American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) academic team award for the fourth straight year and the ninth time since 2009. The Fighting Scots first earned the award in 2009 and won four straight from 2011-14 before beginning the current streak in 2016.
The Scots easily surpassed the award minimum GPA of 3.30 with a remarkable 3.62 GPA for the 2019 season - the highest team GPA in program history. The roster includes diverse majors ranging from biochemistry and biopsychology to business and exercise science.
"The team has continued to excel in the classroom," said Scots' coach Emily Thebeau. "They are wonderful student-athletes and it is exciting to watch them grow off the court! They continue to represent Monmouth College well."
The Scots report to campus in mid-August to begin training and academic study. Due to COVID-19, the Midwest Conference has canceled all sports competition through Dec. 31.
