Scots' Women's Soccer Earns Fourth National Academic Award in Five Years
Monmouth, IL (10/01/2020) — For the fourth time in the last five seasons, the Monmouth College women's soccer team was named an All-Academic team by the United Soccer Coaches.
After claiming All-Academic Team status for the 2017-18 season, the Scots returned to the list for the 2019-20 campaign, the same year they qualified for their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. Monmouth won back-to-back academic team awards during the 2014 and '15 seasons and six overall prior to this year's distinction.
Established in 1996, the annual award is presented to teams which compile a 3.0 minimum team GPA for that academic year.
"The women continue to do an outstanding job committing themselves to excellence on the field and in the classroom," said coach Nick Rizzo. "Earning this award in a season where we also qualified for the NCAA Tournament is extremely gratifying and proves student-athletes can excel in the classroom as well as on the field. Our challenge now becomes maintaining that level of athletic and academic excellence each and every year."
Based in Kansas City, the USC is the world's largest coaching association with more than 30,000 members. The group promotes soccer nationwide and offers continuing education for its members as well as award programs for high school and college soccer programs.
