Scots Baseball Wins Sunday in 10 Innings

Monmouth knocks off IC 7-6

MONMOUTH, Ill. (05/01/2022) — The Monmouth College baseball team salvaged the final game of the series against Illinois College with a 10-inning, 7-6 road win Sunday afternoon. The win puts the Scots at 8-15 in Midwest Conference action with one game left on Tuesday at Chicago.


The Scots got on the board in the top of the first inning. Logan Komater (Ottawa, Illinois) led off with a single and Tyler Houck (Park Ridge, Illinois) singled to center with one out. Komater scored on an error by the center fielder with Houck advancing to second.

The Blue Boys took a 2-1 lead on Jeff Garrett (Aledo, Illinois) in the bottom of the first. The score didn't change until the fourth. Justin Bost (Reynolds, Illinois) singled with one out and moved up on a passed ball before Jack Kuethe (Pekin, Illinois) walked. Raul Guillermo (Miami, Florida) launched a three-run homer to give the Scots a 4-2 lead.

With the game tied in the sixth, Monmouth scored again. Bost walked, Kuethe singled and both moved up on a fly out. A sacrifice fly from Jackson Van Iwaarden (Ballwin, Missouri) gave the Scots a 5-4 lead. After an error, a walk and a pitching change, the Scots made it 6-4 when Komater was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

The score was tied after nine innings. Bost led off the 10th with a hit and moved to second on a sac bunt. Guillermo's single put runners on the corners and Van Iwaarden gave the Scots a 7-6 lead with his second sacrifice fly of the game.

Nicholas Corman (Monmouth, Illinois) took over on the mound in the 10th. He walked the leadoff man but Guillermo picked the runner off first base. Corman got a strikeout before another walk. A fly out to left ended the game as Corman got the save and Cade Sharp (Aledo, Illinois) picked up the win.
