Scots Beat Westminster in Non-Conference Matchup
MONMOUTH, ill. (12/20/2023) — The Monmouth College men's basketball team won for the third time in the last 10 days as they beat Westminster College 81-73 on the road Tuesday night. The Scots (6-5) put three players in double figures and will now have 10 days off before taking the court again.
Westminster scored the first five points of the game before Declan Flynn (Monmouth, Illinois) hit a 3-pointer. The Scots didn't catch up until Kyle Taylor (Moline, Illinois) made a 3-pointer for a 15-15 tie. Taylor also gave Monmouth the lead at 18-17 with another 3-pointer. Flynn buried his second 3-pointer of the half and Max Maring (Port Byron, Illinois) scored twice in the lane to extend the lead to 28-24.
Tied at half, the Bluejays scored first in the second half before Flynn scored for a 30-29 lead. Jordan Hill (Chicago, Illinois) scored Monmouth's next four points and Jason Huber (Carpentersville, Illinois) made it 37-34 with a bucket. Tied at 50, Taylor hit a 3-pointer and Flynn did the same on the next possession. Turner Plumer (Canton, Illinois) made two free throws and Huber hit a 3-pointer for a 63-53 lead. Plumber and Hill continued to knock down free throws and a 3-point play from Hill put the Scots up 73-61. Hill knocked down a 3-pointer for a 76-61 lead with 90 seconds to play and Taylor made a pair of free throws. Hill and Huber made free throws in the last minute for the 81-73 final score.
Hill led the Scots with 21 points and Taylor added 18. Flynn was also in double figures with 13 points and Ganon Greenman (Alpha, Illinois) led the Scots with nine rebounds. Taylor added four assists and three steals in the win.
