Scots Drop Pair at Lake Forest
MONMOUTH, Ill. (04/21/2024) — The Monmouth College softball team lost 14-2 and 8-0 at MWC leader Lake Forest on Saturday.
The Foresters plated eight runs in the first inning of game one and added five more in the third. The Scots trailed 14-0 going into the fifth when pinch-hitter Ashley Juerjens (Delavan, Illinois) walked with one out. Kendall Lewis (Cambridge, Illinois) reached on an error and both runners moved up on a wild pitch before Grace Wyman (Pekin, Illinois) walked. Grace Goodrich (Lake Villa, Illinois) got the Scots on the board with an infield single and Lewis scored on a fielders' choice. Lake Forest got the final out to end the game at 14-2.
Alyssa Hefflefinger (Olin, Iowa) only allowed one earned run but took the loss The Scots allowed 10 unearned runs in game one with five errors.
GAME TWO
Lake Forest scored one run in the first inning of game two. They added two more in the third and four in the fourth before walking off the Scots on the run rule in the fifth inning.
Kayleigh Cobb (Pawnee, Illinois) took the loss with seven runs allowed over four innings. The Scots had three hits in the game. The best chance to score came in the top of the first as Karliegh Ashby (Monmouth, Illinois) led off the game with a walk. With one out, Wyman singled to put two on base but the Foresters got out of the inning.
