Scots Fall at IC on Wednesday
Beach leads Monmouth with 11 points
MONMOUTH, Ill. (02/01/2024) — The Monmouth College women's basketball lost at Illinois College 72-45 on Wednesday night. The Scots have a bye this weekend with four games left in the regular season.
The Lady Blues scored on their first possession and Ashley Jones (Abingdon, Illinois) tied the game with two free throws. The hosts went on a 14-0 run before Allie Hoy (Woodland, Illinois) made two free throws with 1:31 to play in the quarter. IC scored on their next two possessions and led 19-4 at the end of the quarter.
Danielle Beach (Geneseo, Illinois) made the first field goal and converted a free throw for a 3-point play to start the second quarter. Jones made a layup to cut the IC lead to 22-9. Beach scored but IC went on another run to lead 29-11. Jadyn Mitchell (Flanagan, Illinois) hit a 3-pointer and IC led 31-14 at halftime.
Beach started the third quarter with a layup and IC scored the next five points. Mitchell made two free throws and Beach scored in the lane during a 9-4 IC run. Mitchell cut the deficit to 41-21 with a 3-pointer and Ella Goodrich (Minonk, Illinois) made a layup. Delaney Scheidenhelm (New Berlin, Illinois) knocked down two free throws but IC's 6-0 run gave them a 55-27 lead. Mitchell made a free throw and Kynlee Stearns (Gilson, Illinois) knocked down a pair as Monmouth trailed 57-30.
The hosts scored the first four points of the fourth quarter before Goodrich made a layup. Beach and Stearns knocked down free throws and Madison Finch (Aledo, Illinois) made a 3-pointer. After a 5-0 run by IC, Jones made a free throw for a 70-39 game. Lauren Millhiser (Des Plaines, Illinois) made a jumper with 2:59 to play and Finch hit another 3-pointer. Millhiser scored the final point of the game with a free throw as IC won 72-48.
Beach led the Scots with 11 points while Mitchell had nine. Stearns led the Scots with six rebounds. Jones had three assists, three steals and one block, leading the team in each category.
MONMOUTH MOMENTS: With two makes on Wednesday, Mitchell is tied for 14th on the career 3-pointers made list with 64. Beach has scored in double figures six games this season including four of the last five. Finch had a career-high six points, one more than she scored against Eureka on Nov. 21. Millhiser, celebrating a birthday on Wednesday, tied her season high from Jan. 13 at Ripon. Monmouth was 17-for-25 at the free throw line. The last 10 games are split 5-5. IC won in Monmouth 76-60 on Dec. 6. The Scots are off this weekend before playing at Knox on Tuesday, Feb, 6.
