Jeff Knapp ties career goals record in loss

MONMOUTH, Ill (04/10/2021) — The Monmouth College men's lacrosse team suffered their first loss of the season with a home setback to University of Northwestern St. Paul 16-4 on Friday night. The loss drops the Scots to 3-1 overall, and a game back of the Eagles in the Midwest Lacrosse Conference standings at 2-1.

The Eagles outshot the Scots 21-3 in the first quarter and built a 9-2 halftime lead. The Scots goals in the first half came from Michael Casey (Chicago, Illinois) and Jeff Knapp (Nolensville, Tennessee).

Monmouth trailed 13-2 after three quarters and put together back-to-back goals to start the fourth. Knapp scored his second of the day and 69th of his career with 14:25 to play. The goal tied Knapp for the Scots career goal record.

Just 90 seconds later Jake Koenn (Dexter, Michigan) scored for the second game in a row to cut the UNW lead to 13-4. But the Eagles finished the game with the final three goals for a 16-4 win.

MONMOUTH MOMENTS: The Scots were 2-for-6 in extra-man opportunities...Knapp got to 69 goals in 27 games for a 2.56 GPG while Thomas Van Alstine scored 69 goals in 31 games at 2.22 GPG...Gordon Kiesgen (Spring Grove, Illinois) led the Scots with six ground balls and 10 face-offs won...Teagan Simons (Littleton, Colorado) made 20 saves in goal for Monmouth...That tally is one more than his previous career high and the 20 saves are the second-most in a game in school history...Chase Cranford made 27 saves on March 3, 2018These teams meet again in Minnesota on May 1...The Scots next games is at Cornell College at 6 pm on Wednesday.
