Scots Score in Final 20 Seconds to Draw at IC
Murray, Ruiz-Camarena Score for Monmouth
MONMOUTH, Ill. (10/12/2023) — The Monmouth College men's soccer team scored early and then rallied with a dramatic late goal to draw Illinois College 2-2 on Wednesday night. The road result moves the Scots to 1-1-2 in MWC action.
The Scot got on the board in the 11th minute of the game as Kristofer Ruiz-Camarena (El Paso, Texas) scored his fifth goal of the season. Branyon Heard (St. Louis, Missouri) provided the assist on what would end up being Monmouth's only shot on goal in the half. The Blueboys tied the game in the 23rd minute and neither team scored for the rest of the half.
Illinois College took the lead in the 64th minute. With 20 seconds to play, the cots got a throw in, deep in IC territory. Carter Breuchaud (Lebanon, Illinois) too the throw in and fired the ball all the way into the box. Off a bounce, Owen Murray (Cedar City, Utah) knocked the ball into the top of the net to tie the game with 15.5 seconds to play.
Goalkeeper Christopher Zavala (New Lenox, Illinois) made six saves for the Scots and Monmouth had one team save.
MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Monmouth scored on both of their shots on goal in the game. Tanner Viren (East Moline, Illinois), Nathan Braun (Clancy, Montana), Logan Corgan (Geneseo, Illinois), Matthew Hipolito (Plainfield, Illinois), Ramon Aguilar (St. Louis, Missouri) and Zavala, played all 90 minutes. Ruiz-Camarena leads the Scots with five goals. The Scots are home this weekend for a 1:30 p.m. game on Saturday against Lake Forest.
