Scots Softball Loses Twice Saturday

Pauley collects four hits in DH

Monmouth, IL (04/04/2021) — The Monmouth College Fighting Scots softball team lost twice to Cornell College Saturday in games that do not count as conference contests. With Cornell's field unavailable the games were played in Monmouth (0-8) but the Scots were the visiting team. Cornell won 7-6 in eight inning and 13-0 in the double header.

Cornell took the lead in the bottom of the first with two singles against Abby Leber (Tremont, Illinois). The Scots tied the game in the top of the fourth. Jessica Pauley (Moline, Illinois) led off with a single and Kassidy Johnson (Petersburg, Illinois) ran for her. Sarah LaHood (East Peoria, Illinois) singled and Leber tied the game with a single. Madison Belville (Rushville, Illinois) walked but the Scots left the bases loaded.

Cornell went on top 5-1 with a grand slam in the fifth inning. Monmouth came right back in the top of the sixth, sending nine batters to the plate. Pauley singled and with two outs Leber singled. Belville's single loaded the bases and Calista Warmowski (Spring Grove, Illinois) tripled to cut the Cornell lead to 5-4. Allie Ramlo (Tremont, Illinois) tied the game with a double and MyKenzie Kloess (Dupo, Illinois) gave the Scots a 6-5 lead with a single.

Cornell tied the game in the sixth with a two-out rally that included a single, stolen base and another single. They won the game in the eighth, loading the bases on two singles and an error before a walk-off pinch-hit single.

Game two was all Rams as they scored eight runs in the second inning and five in the third to run-rule the Scots 13-0 and sweep the DH.
