Scots Softball Swept by Illinois College Friday

Pauley Collects Three Hits in Game One

MONMOUTH, Ill. (04/02/2021) — The Monmouth College softball team returned to action after 23 days off and lost 13-4 and 9-0 to Illinois College on Friday. The home games do not count in the Midwest Conference standings as the Scots fall to 0-6 on the season.

The Lady Blues jumped out to an early lead in game one with three first-inning runs against Scots hurler Abby Leber (Tremont, Illinois). One of the runs was unearned as the inning included a walk, wild pitch, error, stolen base and two hits.

The Scots answered in the bottom of the first. MyKenzie Kloess (Dupo, Illinois) drew a lead off walk and came around to score on a two-out double from Jessica Pauley (Moline, Illinois). Pauley advanced to third but was left in scoring position.

Illinois College plated two runs in the second and fourth innings before taking an 11-1 lead in the sixth on a grand slam from Maddy Morgan.

The Scots extended the game in the bottom of the sixth with a three-run rally. Pauley singled and Kassidy Johnson (Petersburg, Illinois) ran at first. Brittney Enos (Fisher, Illinois) walked and a passed ball advanced both runners. Calista Warmowski (Spring Grove, Illinois) walked to load the bases with two outs and Jenna Pauley (Moline, Illinois) singled home a run. A wild pitch scored Enos and Warmowski came around to score as well when the throw back to the plate was wild. Allie Ramlo (Tremont, Illinois) singled to put runners on the corners but the Scots didn't score again.

IC scored two runs in the top of the seventh for the 13-4 final score. Leber (0-4) took the loss allowing six earned runs on 10 hits over 3 2/3 innings.

In game two the Lady Blues scored twice in the top of the first and never looked back. They added four runs in the fourth and three more in the sixth for the 9-0 six-inning win. Rebecca Merletti (Kenosha, Wisconsin) threw a complete game in the loss, allowing six earned runs over six innings.

Monmouth's first base runner came in the fifth inning when Enos drew a walk. The first hit came to start the sixth as Biancha Luna (Monmouth, Illinois) singled to right. Kloess also singled in the sixth to put two on base but the Scots left both in scoring position
