Scots Swimmers Win 19 of 20 Events to Sweep Knox

Monmouth honors seven seniors on Saturday

MONMOUTH, Ill. (01/29/2023) — The Monmouth College men's and women's swimming teams swept their dual meets against Knox College on Saturday winning 19 of 20 events overall. The women won 139-33 and the men won 96-50 as both beat Knox in a dual meet for the third time this season. The meet was the last one of the season before the Midwest Conference Championships next month.

Women

The women won every single event and also took second place in eight of the 10 events. Jaidlyn Sellers (Tremont, Illinois) won both the 50 freestyle (26.48) and the 100 backstroke (1:04.22).

Lauren Fulscher (Moline, Illinois) won the 200 freestyle in 2:20.72, Lauren Johnson (Pekin, Illinois) won th 100 breaststroke in 1:22.73, Mady Gaus (Herscher, Illinois) won the 200 IM in 2:31.01, Nicole Fitch (Marengo, Illinois) won the 100 fly in 1:11.68, Evelyn Schaefer (Stoughton, Wisconsin) won the 500 freestyle in 6:19.27 and Ashling Staunton (Chicago, Illinois) won the 100 freestyle in 1:07.06.

The Scots also won both relays. Sellers, Johnson, Fitch and Staunton won the 200 medley relay. Fulscher, Kayle Heumann (Schaumburg, Illinois), Emily Davis (Beloit, Wisconsin) and Tristan Lambert (Rock Island, Illinois) won the 400 freestyle relay to cap the day.


Men

The men won nine of the 10 events and added a pair of second place finishes as well. Tristan Kennon (Flossmoor, Illinois) and Finn Van Dyke (Lawrence, Kansas) each won two events. Kennon won the 50 free (23.38) and the 100 free (51.01). Van Dyke won the 200 free (1:52.51) and the 100 backstroke (1:09.68).

Camden Schmidt (Washington, Illinois) won the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.88 while Ethan Main (Oneida, Illinois) won the 200 IM in 2:20.22 and Brady Hild (Tremont, Illinois) won the 500 freestyle in 5:49.35

Hild, Van Dyke, Kennon and Jayden Wilbon (Crown Point, Indiana) teamed up to win the 200 medley relay. Schmidt, Hild, Van Dyke and Wilbon won the 400 freestyle relay to finish off the victory.

The Scots honored seven seniors, all on the women's team: Kaitlyn Fox (Villa Park, Illinois), Fulscher, Heumann, Johnson, Bella Peetz (Lake Geneva, Wisconsin), Sellers and Staunton. The Scots will next be in action at the season-ending Midwest Conference Championships at Grinnell College Feb. 17-19.
