Scots Volleyball Falls to Ranked Ohio Northern at IWU Tournament

Monmouth back home Wednesday

MONMOUTH, Ill. (09/12/2021) — The Monmouth College volleyball team participated in the Holiday Inn Classic over the weekend in Bloomington, Illinois and went 0-3 against three top-50 teams. The Scots are now 5-4 on the season as they prepare to host Augustana University on Wednesday night.

On Friday the Scots faced the host Illinois Wesleyan Titans, a squad receiving votes in this week's ACVA Division III poll. The Titans came out firing on all cylinders and beat Monmouth 25-13, 25-11, 25-21. Freshman Layne Wright (Davenport, Iowa) led the Scots with seven kills while junior Amanda Dybal (Apex, North Carolina) had five. Karlie Drish (Milan, Illinois) led Monmouth with nine assists and Loryn Beal (Pontiac, Illinois) had a team-high 12 digs.

On Saturday the Scots faced No. 11 Ohio Northern in the first match of the day. The unbeaten Polar Bears won a close first set 25-19 before pulling away for 25-12, 25-11 wins in the final two sets. Wright again led the team with seven kills and added two assists. Drish had eight assists with 14 digs while Kalyee Woodard (Monmouth, Illinois) led the Scots with 19 digs.

In the final game of the tournament the Scots took Earlham College to four sets before falling 25-9, 21-25, 25-14, 25-12. Beal paced Monmouth with 10 kills, one more than Wright. Drish had 15 assists while Woodard led the Scots with 22 digs.

Monmouth will play at home against Augustana on Wednesday. The JV game begins at 5 p.m. with the varsity match scheduled for 7 p.m. The Scots head to Millikin University in Decatur next weekend for their third tournament of the 2021 season.
