Scots Win 12 Events at Roger Haynes Invitational

Over 120 Alums return to celebrate Coach Haynes

MONMOUTH, Ill. (02/12/2023) — The Monmouth College track and field teams had multiple winners in front of a boisterous home crowd at the first-ever Roger Haynes Invitational on Saturday. The men won seven individual events and swept the relays while the women won three events as more than 120 track and field alumni looked on.

Men

Caleb Toberman (Clifton, Illinois) won the weight throw for the third week in a row with a heave of 17.59m. Toberman also won the shot put with a career-high throw of 15.30 that ranks in the top 50 nationally. Blake Orwig (Wyoming, Illinois) finished fourth in the weight throw at 13.48m while Sam Phillips (Cape Coral, Florida) was fourth in the shot put at 13.07m.

Patrick Curry Jr. (Chicago, Illinois) was also a double winner with titles in the high jump and 400m. In the high jump he cleared 1.80m to win the event. Curry ran a career-best 52.69 to win the 400m.

Reed Wilson (Normal, Illinois) won the pole vault at 4.60m with Riley Bernas (Aurora, Illinois) in second at 4.00m. Luke Ditsworth (Oquawka, Illinois) won the 60m in 7.08 seconds, the eighth fastest time in school history. Teammate Luke Jachimiec (Aurora, Illinois) was second in 7.16 seconds.

Eli Newton (Dallas City, Illinois) won the 800m race in a career-best 2:00.20. Teammate Eli Perry (Mt. Prospect, Illinois) was third in 2:02.72.

The Scots men won both relays. The 4x200m team of Reed Bona (Dyersburg, Tennessee), Ditsworth, Jachimiec and Adrian Outlaw (Galesburg, Illinois) won in 1:31.44. The 4x400m relay team of Bona, Curry, Newton and Outlaw finished the meet with a six second win in a time of 3:29.49.

Women

Addi Cox (Morton, Illinois) and Amanda Dybal (Apex, North Carolina) tied for the victory in the weight throw as both set new personal bests at 15.82m. That performance ranks in the top 50 nationally for the season and also tied for the 10th best throw in school history. Maddie Boley (Beecher, Illinois) took fourth in the weight at 14.77 and took second in the shot put at 12.93. Boley's career-best in the shot put ranks ninth in school history. Kayla Braun (Evansville, Illinois) made her season debut, finishing third in the shot put with Cox in fourth.

Alyssa Villarreal (Galesburg, Illinois) won the long jump with a season-best of 5.27m. Lauren Anderson (Cambridge, Illinois) took fourth with a career-best 4.90m.

Linsey Turner (Elburn, Illinois) won the pole vault with a season-best 3.26m and Miranda Hursey (Hanna City, Illinois) entered the Monmouth top 10 with a career-best 3.11m to tie for second.

Villarreal took second in the 60m at 8.17 and she cracked the Monmouth top 10 with an 8.10 in the prelims. Anderson took second in the high jump with a career-best 1.53m with Bethany Allen (Monmouth, Illinois) in third at 1.43m. Nicole Hoyer (Montgomery, Illinois) was second in the 400m race at 1:04.54, just ahead of teammate Carina Engst (Bloomington, Illinois) at 1:06.03.

The women's 4x200m relay team was disqualified and the 4x400m team of Hoyer, Engst, Skylar Garey (Metamora, Illinois) and Ally Celus (Annawan, Illinois) finished second.

NEXT UP:

The Scots head to Jacksonville, Illinois for meets each of the next two weekends. First up is the Hilltop Classic on Friday, Feb. 17 at 5 p.m. The following weekend, the Scots return to Jacksonville for the Midwest Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Illinois College on Feb. 24 and 25.
