Sellers Sets School-Record in 50 Free at MWC Championships

Scots in 7th place after day one

MONMOUTH, Ill. (02/18/2023) — After the first of three days at the Midwest Conference Swimming and Diving Championships, both the Monmouth College men's and women's teams sit in seventh place in the team standings.

The highlight of the day for the Fighting Scots on Friday came in the women's 50m freestyle. Senior Jaidlyn Sellers (Tremont, Illinois) swam a personal best 24.93 in the prelims to secure the final qualifying spot for the A finals. In the final she finished sixth and broke the nine-year old school record for the event with a time of 24.82. Erin Willhite set the 50m record at 24.86 back in 2014. Sellers broke the school record in the 100 backstroke last year at the MWC Championships.

Sellers also teamed up with Nicole Fitch (Marengo, Illinois), Ashling Staunton (Chicago, Illinois) and Lauren Fulscher (Moline, Illinois) to finish sixth in the 200m freestyle relay.

The men's best finish of the day came in the 200m freestyle relay. The team of Finnegan Van Dyke (Lawrence, Kansas), Jadon Wilbon (Crown Point, Indiana), Tristan Kennon (Flossmoor, Illinois) and Camden Schmidt (Washington, Illinois) finished seventh.

The MWC Championships, held at Grinnell College, continue on Saturday and Sunday.
