Sepich Into Consolation Finals as Tennis Competes in MWC Championships
Tournament concludes on Sunday in Peoria
MONMOUTH, Ill (04/30/2023) — The Monmouth College men's tennis team competed in the first day of the Midwest Conference Championships on Saturday at The Clubs at River City in Peoria.
Day one included first-round and consolation singles matches at all six positions and first-round doubles matches at all three positions. The Scots do not have a No. 3 doubles team or a No. 6 singles player.
At No. 1 singles, Sawyer Day (Cupertino, California) fell to the #2 seed from Lake Forest 6-1, 6-0. He then lost in the consolation to the #6 seed from Illinois College 8-3.
At No. 2 singles.Nick Robertson (Covington, Georgia) fell to the #2 seed fom Lake Forest 6-1, 6-0 before losing to the #6 seed from Lawrence 8-2 in the consolation.
At No. 3 singles, Spencer Corn (Kansas City, Missouri) lost to the #2 seed from Lake Forest 6-0, 6-0 and the #6 seed from Illinois College 8-5.
At No. 4 singles, Andrew Nickols (Janesville, Wisconsin) lost to the #2 seed from Lake Forest 6-0, 6-0 and the #6 seed from Illinois College 8-3.
Caden Sepich (Mackinaw, Illinois) was the only Monmouth player to be seeded #6 instead of #7. He lost to #3 Cornell 6-1, 6-1 in the first round and defeated the #7 player from Illinois College 8-1. Sepich will play the #5 seed from Lawrence in Sunday's Consolation Final.
At No. 1 doubles, Day/Robertson lost to the #2 seed from Lake Forest 8-0. They will face the #6 seed from Illinois College in the Consolation Semifinals on Sunday.
At No. 2 doubles, Nickols/Sepich lost to the #2 seed from Lake Forest 8-0. They will face the #.6 seed from IC in Sunday's Consolation Semifinals.
Sunday's matches start at 9 a.m. with the singles matches followed by the doubles.
