Tennis Falls Twice in Iowa on Saturday

MONMOUTH, Ill. (04/11/2026) — The Monmouth College men's tennis team lost at both Cornell and Grinnell on Saturday. . The Fighting Scots (1-9, 0-3) fell 6-1 at Cornell in the morning and 7-0 at Grinnell in the afternoon.

Against Cornell Chase Sims (Tiskilwa, Illinois) got a win at No. 5 singles. He dropped the first set but rallied for a 5-7, 6-4, 10-3 win to move to 4-1 in singles on the season.

"Sims continues to find ways to use his speed and his willingness to lengthen the points puts pressure on the opponents," said head coach Brian Dahlstrom. "We knew today would be a challenging day playing two of the top three teams in the conference and not having two of our top six players available.

In the other singles matches, Caden De Jong (Freeport, Illinois) won three games at No. 3 singles, Matthew Savage (Washington, Illinois) and Antonio Perez (St. George, Utah) won two at No. 1 and No. 2 respectively and Ashur Carthan (Homewood, Illinois) won one game at No. 5. Luke Jachimiec (Aurora, Illinois) made his college debut at No. 6 and lost 6-0, 6-0.

Savage/Perez lost 6-0 at No. 1 doubles while De Jong/Sims lost 6-1 and Carthan/Jachimiec also lost 6-1 at No. 3.

Five of the six singles matches finished 6-0, 6-0 for Grinnell with De Jong winning a game in the second set at No. 3. All three doubles matches finished 6-0 for the Pioneers.

MONMOUTH MOMENTS: The Scots last beat Cornell 2018 ... The last time the Scots avoided a shutout against the Pioneers was an 8-1 loss in 2018 and they last won more than one match in 2014 ...
