Toberman, Boley, Hursey Win Titles at MWC Championships

Women in 2nd, Men in 4th after day one

MONMOUTH, Ill. (05/11/2024) — The Monmouth College track and field teams competed in the first day of the Midwest Conference Championships on Friday at Illinois College. The Scots claimed four individual titles on Friday and heading into Saturday's final day, the men are in fourth place and the women are in second place.

MEN
Caleb Toberman (Clifton, Illinois) won both the hammer and discus on Friday. He took the lead in the hammer on his fifth throw and clinched the title with a throw of 55.02m in his final heave. Toberman also won the hammer at the 2023 MWC Championships and this is the eighth outdoor hammer title in Monmouth history

Toberman came back a couple hours later and won the discus with a career-best throw of 48.36m. That throw is the 10th best in Monmouth history This marks the 23rd time a Monmouth athlete has won the discus at the MWC outdoor meet.

Shane Anderson (Lisle, Illinois) scored points in the discus with a fourth-place finish. He also scored in the hammer with a seventh place finish

Riley Bernas (Aurora Illinois) took fourth in the pole vault at 4.00m, earning five points.

Eli Newton (Dallas City, Illinois) finished sixth in the 1500m with a career-best 4:00.07, the 11th best result in Monmouth history.

Da'Von Patterson (Ponte Vedra, Florida) qualified for Saturday's 200m final in seventh place with a time of 22.75. Adrian Outlaw (Galesburg, Illinois) qualified second for Saturday's 400m final in a time of 50.13, a season best.

Peter Soutsos (Highland Park, Illinois) qualified for Saturday's 110m hurdles final in sixth place with a time of 16.52. Logan Morse (Yates City, Illinois) qualified fourth for the 400m hurdles final with a PR of 58.44 seconds.

The men are in fourth place with 35 points, 12 behind first-place Ripon.

WOMEN
Maddie Boley (Beecher, Illinois) won the shot put with a throw of 13.01m, the 14th shot put title in Scots history. Kayla Braun (Evansville, Illinois) was second at 12.62m and Gracie Gibbons (Altona, Illinois) finished fourth at season-best 11.70m with Alayna Earle (Clinton, Illinois) in fifth at 11.37m, a new PR. Gibbons also finished sixth in the javelin to earn three points with a throw of 29.89m.

Miranda Hursey (Hanna City, Illinois) won the pole vault to go with her indoor title in the same event. This is the 10th women's pole vault title for Monmouth and Hursey set a new PR with the fifth-best result in Monmouth history at 3.45m. The Scots also earned points in the pole vault from Megan Dailey (Pendleton, Indiana) and Delaney Rexroat (Monmouth, Illinois). Dailey finished fifth at 3.05m and Rexroat was sixth at 2.90,

Maddie Rusk (Annawan, Illinois) took fifth in the long jump with a PR of 5.32m. She also qualified fifth in the 100m race at 12.70 seconds with Makaiha Moore-Bell (Knoxville, Illinois) qualifying eighth in 12.94 seconds. Rusk also qualified fourth in the 200m with a time of 26.09 seconds.

The women are in second place with 51 points, three behind Ripon.
