Volleyball Drops Home Opener to Augustana

MONMOUTH, Ill. (09/16/2026) — The Monmouth College volleyball lost the home opener to Augustana College 3-0 on Tuesday night. The Fighting Scots (2-6) fell 25-22, 25-20, 25-15,

The Vikings won the first eight points of the opening set before Abby Viano (Braidwood, Illinois) got a kill. Kaylee Celus (Annawan, Illinois) had two kills in a row but the Vikings pushed the lead back to eight. Melina Teunis (Grand Haven, Michigan) and Bri Woodard (Monmouth, Illinois) delivered kills before the Vikings went up 19-10. The Scots rallied back and pulled within three at 22-19 as Celus and Teunis added kills on a service run by Isa Hughes (Chicago, Illinois). Woodard's kill kept the set alive but Augustana closed out the set at 25-22.

Abriana Bruns (Johnsburg, Illinois) served to start the second set and Monmouth took a 1-0 lead. Teunis had two kills and after two errors, Monmouth led 6-3. Teunis made it 10-5 with an ace and a kill by Woodard kept the Scots up by five. Augustana pulled even at 17 and the set was tied again at 18 and 20. The visitors won the final five points of the set to take a 2-0 lead.

Augustana kept the momentum going as they won the first four points of the third set. The Scots pulled even at five on skills by Celus and Woodard. Augustana used a 9-2 run to lead 17-9 as they picked up three aces. Teunis had a pair of kills but Augustana finished off the match with a 25-15 set.

Teunis and Woodard led the way with eight kills while Celus had six. Hughes had 12 assists and six digs while Tyla Mattson (Morton, Illinois) had nine assists and five digs. Celus led the team with seven digs while Teunis had the only ace of the night. Viano and Woodard both had two blocks.

MONMOUTH MOMENTS: The Scots had their most kills in the first set with 10 ... The second set had six ties and the only lead change of the night ... Augustana had eight aces on the night while Monmouth had one ... The Scots had eight service errors ... Augustana leads the series 35-25 with nine straight wins ... The Fighting Scots head to the Millikin Tournament this weekend with two games on Friday and one on Saturday ... The next home game is Tuesday, September 29 against Coe.
