Volleyball Splits Pair in Jacksonville

MONMOUTH, Ill - (09/04/2021) — The Monmouth College volleyball team (2-1) played nine sets on Friday in the first day of the Illinois College Invitational and walked away with a 1-1 record. After a tough five-set loss against Olivet College in the afternoon, the Fighting Scots bounced back to defeat Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology 25-20, 18-25, 25-18, 25-20 in the nightcap.

In the second match, freshman Layne Wright (Davenport, Iowa) led the Scots with 11 kills while junior Sarah LaHood (East Peoria, Illinois) added seven. Senior Loryn Beal (Pontiac, Illinois) and junior Amanda Dybal (Apex, North Carolina) both had six kills.

Senior Karlie Drish (Milan, Illinois) led the way with 18 assists while freshman Paige Bergschneider (Alexander, Illinois) added 17. Kaylee Woodard (Monmouth, Illinois) had 20 digs and Beal provided 18. LaHood and freshman Kenzie Russell (Morton, Illinois) both had four block assists.

Stats were not immediately available for the opening game as the Scots rallied to win the fourth set over Olivet but fell in set five. Monmouth plays two more matches in Jacksonville on Saturday with a 2 p.m. match against Blackburn College followed by a contest against Concordia University-Chicago.
