Volleyball Splits Two Saturday Matches in Iowa
Coach Broekemier picks up first win in opener
MONMOUTH, Ill. (09/02/2023) — The Monmouth College volleyball team split two games on Saturday at the Grinnell/Cnetral Invite in iowa. With a 3-0 win over Crown in the morning game, head coach Derrick Broekemier picked up his first career win. The Scots fell 3-0 to Wisconsin-Stout in the afternoon match.
The Scots took the first set of the day 25-13 over Crown College and pushed the lead with a 25-16 win in set two. The third set was closer but Monmouth picked up the 3-0 win with a 25-21 set victory.
Layne Wright (Davenport, Iowa) led the Scots with 17 kills while Amanda Dybal (Apex, North Carolina) had 14. Paige Bergschneider (Alexander, Illinois) had 38 assists on 43 Monmouth kills and she added two kills, two aces and 18 digs.Savannah Robinson (Delavan, Illinois) led the team with 24 digs while Kenzie Russell (Morton, Illinois) had four aces, four kills and 10 digs.
The second match of the day saw Wisconsin-Stout beat the Scots 25-18, 25-18, 25-20, Russell led the Scots with 10 kills against UW-Stout while Wright had eight. Bergschnedier had 24 assists while Robinson led with 20 digs. Both Robinson and Russell had two aces.
