Volleyball Sweeps Blackburn on Saturday
MONMOUTH, Ill. (10/08/2022) — The Monmouth College volleyball team ran their win streak to three with a convincing 25-18, 25-15, 25-13 road sweep of Blackburn on Saturday. The Scots went 3-0 on the week with a Midwest Conference sweep of Knox and two wins on the weekend over SLIAC teams in non-conference play.
The first set was the closest with three lead changes and three ties.The Scots hit .289 in the first set with 14 kills and held the Beavers to .068 hitting percentage. The second set had just one lead change and the Scots hit .214 with nine kills while Blackburn hit .114. Monmouth led the third set wire-to-wire, hitting .355 with 13 kills and two errors.
Sarah LaHood (East Peoria, Illinois) and Layne Wright (Davenport, Iowa) both had nine kills in the match. Amanda Dybal (Apex, North Carolina) had eight and Kenzie Russell (Morton, Illinois) added seven kills. Paige Bergschneider (Alexander, Illinois) had 30 assists on the Scots 36 kills. Monmouth finished with 16 aes, led by Wright with four. Wright led the team with 15 digs while Bergschneider had 13.
Full stats were not imediately available. The Scots return home to face MWC rivals Illinois College at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
