Walker, Rech Lead Scots to 11-0 Saturday Win

Monmouth racks up 50 shots in victory

MONMOUTH, Ill. (09/18/2022) — The Monmouth College women's soccer team continued their non-conference play with an 11-0 win against Maranatha Baptist in Wisconsin on Saturday. Forward Madison Walker (Vernon Hills, Illinois) scored four goals and Lynn Rech (Vacaville, California) had a Monmouth single-game record four assists as the Scots picked up the third largest margin of victory in school history.

Walker opened the scoring with an unassisted goal at the 11 minute mark. Celebrating her birthday, Elizabeth Schmidt (Waverly, Iowa) scored the second goal and Walker made it 3-0 just before the 40 minute mark. Kelsey Holtgrave (Hillsboro, Illinois) gave the Scots a 4-0 lead at halftime as Monmouth took 27 shots, 14 on goal in the first half.

Walker's third of the game opened the second half scoring on Rech's second assist of the game. Rech made it 6-0 six minutes later and Kaylee Doebert (Mount Horeb, Wisconsin) added a goal in the 70th minute

Schmidt's second goal of the game made it 8-0 and less than a minute later, Sam Koppers (Tinley Park, Illinois) made it 9-0. Anna Davison's (Bettendorf, Iowa) first goal put the Scots in double digits and Walker's fourth of the day came with 10 minutes left to cap the scoring.

"It was great to see the team execute for a complete game," said coach Lucas Henderson. "We played at our pace, made good adjustments at halftime and I'm happy with the way we moved the ball and created a variety of looks."

The Scots finished the game with 50 shots while MBU did not register a shot. Bronte de Zwart (Adelaide, Australia) made her first start in goal.
