Wall Scores 17 but Scots Fall at Ripon

Regular season finale set for Tuesday

MONMOUTH, Ill. (02/11/2023) — The Monmouth College women's basketball team fell to Ripon College 69-49 on Saturday. The Fighting Scots (10-14, 6-9) will wrap up the regular season on Tuesday at Cornell.

Ripon got off to a hot start with an 8-0 lead before Lily Harlan (Washington, Illinois) made a jumper to get the Scots on the board. Zoie Wall (Bartonville, Illinois) made a 3-pointer and Harlan knocked down two free throws to cut the lead to 10-7. Allie Hoy (Woodland, Illinois) got a bucket to answer Ripon's score. The Red Hawks scored the next five points before Harlan scored for a 17-11 game at the end of the quarter.

Audrey Law (Bloomington, Indiana) scored the first four points of the second quarter. Ripon pushed the lead back to seven at 25-17 before Tarae Warner (Burlington, Iowa) made a 3-pointer. Wall scored Monmouth's next seven points to cut Ripon's lead to 29-27. The hosts scored the final four points of the half to take a 33-27 lead into the locker room,

Ripon extended their lead to 37-29 early in the third quarter before Harlan hit a 3-pointer. Law scored on the next possession to cut the Ripon lead back to three. Monmouth got within two at 38-36 on a basket by Wall before the Red Hawks took a 43-38 lead. Wall hit a pair of free throws to get the lead back to five but Ripon closed the quarter on a 6-2 run for a 51-42 lead.

The hosts started the fourth quarter on a 9-1 run to go up 60-43 before Warner made a layup with 5:24 to play. Ripon scored the next nine points to go on top 69-45 before Law scored with 39 seconds to play. Averi Rangel (Moline, Illinois) scored the final points of the game with four seconds left.

Wall led the Scots with 17 points and Harlan had 11. Harlan led the way with seven rebounds, one more than Wall. Ashley Jones (Abingdon, Illinois) had two of Monmouth's six assists while Law contributed eight points off the bench.
